The spaces we create have meaning. These spaces are surrounded or enclosed by structures that most definitely have meaning. What we tend not to recognize at first glance  are the echoes of those who occupy and use these spaces. Still they are there, they are palpable. Laura J. Padgett has spent time in the Westend Synagoge recording resonances, making images between space, place, spirit and time. The photographs the artist has made in the synagogue in Eldridge Street in New York are a kind of double exposure to the work in the Westend Synagogue of what has been lost and what has been regained. Through her photographs we experience what resilience can be and how it manifests itself in presence of objects, marks and traces.
