Satijn Panyigay makes photographic work that invites its viewer to slow down. She is fascinated by the psyche of the human being, but mostly photographs vacant spaces that are briefly not fulfilling their function. Such as the empty exhibition rooms of museums and their depots, without visitors or art. Panyigay takes her analogue photographs during solitary, meditative explorations of the temporarily abandoned places. She aims to convey the stillness she finds there, and invites you to look with undivided attention. Small details and subtle colours seem to appear, as well as some room for contemplation. Her strict but poetic work, in absence of any direct human narratives, is surprisingly humane – it addresses the feelings of its observer.

Satijn Panyigay (b. 1988 in Nijmegen, Netherlands) studied photography at the Utrecht School of Art, where she continues to live and work. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions in the Netherlands, including Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam); Fotomuseum Den Haag; Museum Tot Zover (Amsterdam); Villa Mondriaan (Winterswijk). Her works are in the collections of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Museum Tot Zover, Museum Van Bommel Van Dam and Museum W., among others, as well as in numerous private collections.
